Chapter 10

Michael was ready to call it a day, but she had one client who needed to be talked through how to use Instagram to market her new line of coffee-infused cupcakes. A fifteen-minute conversation turned into a two-hour workshop. By the time she got off the phone with the baker, Michael knew she needed to hire a social-media guru to handle these things in the future.

“It costs to be the boss.” She shut down her computer and placed her phone system on night answer because she wasn’t taking another phone call today. Glancing at her watch, she realized that whatever she had planned for dinner wasn’t going to work now. She hoped Jamal would enjoy takeout from the Sunshine Café. When she made it outside, she noticed that Lucy was coming her way. Not now, she thought as she plastered a smile on her face.

“Michael, I’m glad I caught you.” Lucy stood in front of her like an imposing linebacker from the Falcons. “I have a great idea on how we can get more eyes on the festival.”

“Awesome. But can it wait until tomorrow? I have dinner plans that I’m running late for.”

“Oh, well, I guess. But it will only take a second.”

Michael glanced at her watch and sighed. “What is it?”

“One of my dearest friends produces some docuseries for a popular network, and I was telling her about my involvement with this event. She wants to follow me around and film the preparations.”

Michael laughed inwardly. Brent and Jamal had been right. “We’re talking a reality show?”

“That’s what some people call them, but it’s really a look into my life, and Nic is on board with it.”

“Of course he is.”

“But you’re the marketing genius and I wanted to get your input. From what I understand, some of the best and brightest of Atlanta is going to be a part of the festival. The world should see what we’re about, you know.”

“Why don’t you send me some details about the show and I’ll see if it is a fit for what we’re doing. Then we need to make sure everyone involved is all right with being filmed and get waivers.”

“Great. I know this has the potential to be golden. Are you available for a breakfast meeting?”

“I’ll have to check my schedule and let you know. Lucy, I really have to go.”

“Okay. ’Bye, Michael.”

Getting into her car, Michael shook her head. She couldn’t wait for this festival to be over. How many more months did they have to go?

After ordering dinner and grabbing a bottle of wine, Michael was finally ready to head home. She hated that she didn’t have the view of the sky that Jamal had over at his place. But she had a different view she was ready to show him. She reached her place with just enough time to plate their dinners and change into something that would make Jamal see all kinds of stars.

Jamal paid for the two dozen roses and tipped the florist for unlocking the door for him when he arrived.
